This is no doubt old news but I cannot skip over it because we have to celebrate that we got a release from Amazon, and second, hope for a press drop when the movie comes out (fingers crossed).

What’s great about this is that it’s a reminder to add Coming To America to your watchlist ASAP. This will serve as a refresher since we all have to stay home and social distance because the COVID variant is hitting us hard, Khanyi Mbau is busy doing the math and I doubt anybody wants that.

A quick rundown on what the movie is about: An African Prince that leaves the soft life in Zamunda and heads to New York, Queens, to find a wife that he can respect for her intelligence and will. Eddie Murphy played Prince Akeem, Clarence, Saul & Randy Watson in the film.

It opened in theatres in 1988 and became a box office sensation achieving over $288 million (well over R4b) in total worldwide box office gross.

The comedy was translated to over 25 languages around the globe, known in other countries as Un Prince à New York in France, Der Prinz aus Zamunda in Germany, Un Príncipe en Nueva York throughout Latin America, Il Principe Cerca Moglie in Italy, and many more – to become the iconic movie we all know and love today.

This long-awaited sequel to the iconic comedy Coming to America will launch worldwide in over 240 countries and territories on Prime Video on March 5, 2021. The newly-crowned King Akeem and his trusted confidante Semmi embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began. Original cast favourites from Coming to America return including King Jaffe Joffer, Queen Lisa, Cleo McDowell, Maurice, and the motley barbershop crew.

Joining this star-studded ensemble which includes Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos, and Louie Anderson are Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Teyana Taylor, making Coming 2 America the most anticipated comedy film of 2020. It’s hard to ignore the fact that this might be the role that will put Nomzamo in Hollywood.

“Coming to America was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time,”

said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios.

“Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers, and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favourite.”

Craig Brewer from Paramount Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures directed the film. Its produced by Eddie Murphy Productions and Misher Films while the screenplay is written by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield, with story by Barry W. Blaustein, David Sheffield, and Justin Kanew, based on characters created by Eddie Murphy.
