Joan Alexandra Molinsky Rivers has been my favourite topic for as long as I can remember. Whether its plastic surgery or harsh jokes about someones look on the red carpet. It wasn’t until I watched Joan Rivers: A piece of work, that I heard about the Johnny Carson that set her career to a meteoric rise with the words, “you’re gonna be a star” and damn right she was a star.
This echoes the sentiments of what Lady Gaga was talking about during her press tour when she said “There can be a hundred people in the room, and 99 don’t believe in you, but one does,” there’s always a Johnny Carson.
Another thing I’ve always admired was the fact that she was actualised as a brand in that, she created her own thing that connected her with her listeners. Catchphrases like: “can we talk here”? Sometimes she’d talk about an actress and ask “is she here?”
This is the tea;
She’s always been the press queen.
I miss Rihanna because it’s not only the album she owes us, rather everything else that comes with it. Like the press tour (press looks), she gets to talk and we’ll see her play games with Jimmy Fallon, or prank the other Jimmy!
Anyway – she was back at SNL to promote the album she had taped in London, titled What Becomes a Semi Legend Most?
She basically roasted herself with Joe Piscopo as her impersonator;
Joan Rivers always gave the talk show hosts everything and more. Banter is the only thing that makes things fun and frothy, right?
Anyway – check out what she did at The View back in the day.
0.50 seconds after sitting down with the co-hosts and they are gutted:
I will always remember this one as the story that accompanied the Kardashian fallout when Caitlyn Jenner came out as a transwoman. Joan Rivers once again being the beacon of pop culture.
Mentionable: you already know this but Joan Rivers was banned from the Tonight Show for 26 years before this visit in 2014. She was banned after she was offered her own show with a rival network and she said yes. Carson didn’t want to hear it so he hung up when she called – never spoke to her again.
0.45 seconds in, Jimmy was in stitches:
There’s so much more you can watch. This one time she made a joke about Taylor Swift.
Just for laughs:
Get into this gig when she brought her ” acerbic” self to the Graham Norton show, talking about sex as an old woman:
This woman was iconic and she got me into audiobooks. I fell in love with was I Hate Everyone… Starting With Me – maybe that explains a lot of the choices I’ve made huh.
